So I was wondering today...

Does anybody walk their ducks like they do their dogs, on leashes?

lol

Has anyone tried this? It seems kind of funny to try. Although I'm not sure how neighbors would react. To duck people they might think, well there's nothing wrong with it.

OK, but I have another question too besides that one.

It seems like the poultry industry depends on corn and grain. And corn and grain aren't doing very well in the US. This worries me. If the grain industries were interrupted again, it seems like there would be no way of supporting poultry.

Does anyone have a backup option or some other way of taking care of them that might work if the grain were interrupted or disrupted?

The Midwest flooding last year showed this could happen.

So I'd like to bring up and collect ideas of how to take care of chickens and ducks by other means, as backup knowledge. Thanks.

Naturally no one would admit to having one in public. Hahaha.

But I find it curious as a scientific question if its possible to condition them to accept it.

?
I don’t leash my ducks, but I do take them just about everywhere. My two newest ducklings I’ve been tucking into the hood of a sweatshirt I wear backwards so they’re chillaxin on my chest. I take em to get coffee with me in the AM, then to WalMart for shampoo/conditioner then the grocery store for lettuce, afterwards we head back home. No leash needed. I get a few people who “ooh” and “aww” and “so cute!” At them. Take their photo and move on. The only place I’ve been {kindly} asked to leave, ironically, was my place of work - a garden nursery - because we’ve been busy and the cute lil ducklings steal my coworkers away from their job. My manager came out of his office and told me not to bring them in when we’re busy, which is everyday, so nix the workplace.

Wow cool.

And one of my ducklings looked like that until he got big! Thanks!

They are a lot of fun.
