My ducks refuse everything but the feed mash I feed them. They will be over wintering with my chickens who get feed in the morning and seeds (scratch and corn) before bed. Are they being picky because of personality or because they are ducks?

Also how much volume of feed should ducks eat? I feed 24% feed that i ferment. Thanks in advance.

My ducks eat wilted lettuce, bruised fruit, assorted scraps such as the seeds inside bell peppers. Sometimes when I've offered new things, they are unenthused but usually go back and try it later. A winter treat they really like are baked potatos.

My ducks love to hunt bugs so anything small and moving that’s safe for a duck to eat (mealworms, crickets, etc.) are a fun treat! My ducks also enjoyed halved grapes, especially in their water bucket. My ducks were terrified of watermelon rind though!! Ducks are finicky, it’s probably a mix of their personal preferences and just the way ducks are! Try some things out, leave it with them so they can investigate it. Good luck!

Thanks. I know they would prefer to forage. Winter just doesn't come with many bugs and foragey stuff.

I'll just start getting them used to the seeds I guess. Maybe I'll look into cricket dispensers again.

My ducks go crazy over tomatoes. All tomato foliage is toxic, so I have to be careful to remove any stems or any leaf matter that has dried onto the skins of the fruit. My ducks also like Swiss chard and basil flowers, floated in their kiddie pool.

Oh man, my ducks LOVE grapes, kale, watermelon...they'll even eat the rind!
They'll eat a banana out of my hand if I just hold it out.
mealworms- but I have to be careful cause they seem to gain a lot of weight fast on these if I'm not careful.
I watched 1 duck swallow a snake like spagetti
Recently they've been finding pieces of metal in my yard and actually swallowing them so now I'm on the lookout for them to get sick :(
Mine literally eat everything.
You would think we don't feed them but we do, I promise :)

In winter I toss out Alfalfa hay for their noodling pleasure..I also will use alfalfa cubes in warm water in their warm soup I make before bed time...They like cooked Spahgetti squash cut in half...Peas...Tomatoes, cucumber, blueberries, broccoli etc....Romain lettuce is a favourite here...
