So, I was working in the yard today, and saw this old wagon that i thought should be moved. So I moved it, and my 1 yea old rouen hen dashed out from under neath, and she had a nest underneath. I stepped on 2 of the four eggs. So after I found out I stepped on the eggs, I dashed over to the hen to find out she was all bloody!! Her neck, and back have no feathers, and she has gashes.

Heres a question! Will she still sit on the last 2 eggs if she is all gashed up? Or should I put them in my bator? I'm worried the warm egg has a baby in it. I candled it and doesn't seem so. But I'm afraid. The shell is dark and I can't see very well. I put it under a broody chicken for now, but she has eggs that are due in a 2 or 3 weeks. I don't know what to do!!

Also, what should I do for my hen?? Will giving her her 2 eggs make her feel better?

THANKS!!

My first, gut reaction is to get the eggs under another broody or into an incubator, and segregate the wounded duck and treat her wounds.

Thats exactly what I did. I got the warm egg under a broody. She didn't really want it though, cause her duck eggs (Yes, I have a chicken on duck eggs lol) are white, and this one is a olive green. And she REALLY doesn't want it. The duck is in the "Hospital" right now. My WH drake is trying to kill her now :(

So she is safely away from the drake (they can be such trouble)? You may need to find a friend with an incubator if the olive egg is rejected. Hoo boy. Bad day for duckie.

I am thinking, warm bath, some kind of topical antibiotic (blu kote or similar, maybe veterycin), vitamins, safe clean place for a few days and see how it goes.

Was it the moving of the wagon that scraped her up, or the drake, or is there no way to guess?

Yes, safely away. He can't get to her. If he finds a way. I will cage him if I must. I have a bator, I just would like if the rouen hen took the egg herself. I will plug the bator in if I must though.

Thank you for the advice. I have to unload a bunch of wood first. Mom said so

.

I think it was my moms pack of puppies. They have eaten 2 of the chickens. She kept promising to pen them up. And I got worried when I couldn't find her today. So i'm guessing it was those monsters. I need to clean out the hospital pen soon. Hasn't been used for a while, and theres nasty straw in it. So when I have a break from the wood, I will clean that out. And if I have time, I will give her a bath.

I found another warm-ish egg!! I put it under the broody. Hopfully it warms up before she realizes she has a not-so-warm egg!

I gave her a bath. Some food and water. She is doing alot better. Flapping her wings and everything.\

Now that I looked at the wound closely, it looks like a drake attack!..... looks like a drake bred her to much, and pulled her feathers out. I think it was my rouen drake

He was the only one who was able to be near her. Thinking of rehoming him..... not sure. But he has never done this.... He is also getting in the way of my breeding plan with my WH ducks. Decisions, decisions. Will see how he acts in the next couple of weeks.

Sometimes the perpetrator is the last one we suspect. Hard to say for sure, but it would indeed be good to keep him from being able to harm her.

Drakes. Sheesh. Can't live with them, can't breed without them.

Found out it was really a dog. Found her doing the same to a chicken. So MR drake is off the hook
