My chickens got Cocci & Worm at the same time

So, I'm treating them with Liquid Sulmet for Cocci now. I'm going to treat them with Wazine too if they still have bad Worm issue after they are done with Sulmet. And I have 2 - 11wks old Pekin Ducks & 6 -14wks old Mallards. I put water with Sulmet in the chiken run where my ducks can't reach because, I thought if the ducks drink too much water with Sulmet & it'll harm them or kill them. But, can they get Cocci & Worm from my chickens since I usually let everyone free range together? Do I have to treat them with Sulmet & Wazine too? If I have to....,how much Liquid Sulmet & Wazine do I have to mix with water? Thanks, Noriko.

The beauty of keeping ducks and chickens together is that they tend to different diseases. The downside is that when one group is sick, you have to separate them because they don't take the same meds.

Don't put anything in the ducks water. It isn't a good way to treat ducks because they drink so much water.

Ducks aren't prone to cocci. I've never seen one with it and I checked Cornell's website and didn't see it listed among duck diseases.

Ducks can get some types of worms. I worm mine once a year with pour on Ivermectin, (It goes on the skin, just a drop) but I don't worm them as young as yours are. Unless the ducks are showing symptoms of an infestation, I wouldn't treat your juvenile ducks.

The good news is that ducks are pretty darn hardy.

I'm sorry I was not home almost all day yesterday so, I didn't get back to you soon. I separated my ducks from the chickens when I started to treat my chickens with Liquid Sulmet for Cocci. I still see some worms in their stool so, I guess I have to give my chicken Wazine after the Sulmet treatment too.

Wifezilla: We use DE for the chicken & duck coop to clean inside but, we don't add Food grade DE to the feed. So, I'll try that. I think it helps keep the worm population down of my chickens & ducks. Thank you so much for your advice.

Soccer Mom: Thanks a lot for your good info. again. I totally agree with you. And I really like the part that ducks are pretty darn HARDY!!! lol I'll go on the Cornell's website & check. I will also check this Ivermectin thing but, I won't treat them yet. They all look very healthy & active. Again, Thanks so much.

Noriko.
