I had asked a question under the Chicken forum and was asked to move the question ot the Duck Forum so here i go. I am going to be raising a couple to 3 ducks in the near future. First question, am i okay to have just 2 or 3 Males ducks together if i raise them from one day old and raise them as pets? Second question if i am okay to have all males, is it possible to say have One Mallard Drake and One Black East Indie Drake? Again i will be raising them as pets and be giving them both alot of attention daily.

Drakes without females can present a myriad of problems. In my opinion you would be far better off with an all female flock.

I am not sure about having all males becuase I have a mix of males/females but you can mix different breeds I have all different breeds and they are together

On the other hand, some people do quite well with an all boy flock. Let's hope to hear from someone with just drakes. Some tell me that if there are no females around that their drakes get along well.

If i were to get One Female Mallard and One Female East Indie, how often will they be laying eggs? I am really trying to avoid dealing with any eggs, but i would rather have ducks that get along and pick up eggs than two males that don't get along. This all new to me if it sounds dumb, just trying to learn what i can before i select 2-3 to raise as pets. Thanks for anyone's advice.

Black east indies and true mallards are both seasonal layers, so you would only have to deal with eggs for a few months. If you take away their eggs and give them fake eggs to sit on, they would probably lay even less.

Thank you rainplace. Do you have any thoughts on just raising Drakes only and if that is okay then raising say one Mallard drake and one East Indie drake? I am getting mixed opinions above so if you have any knowledge on that i would love to hear? Thanks.

I had all muscovy drakes at one time 3 of them and they got along great till I decided to go get 3 girls, that's when the trouble started.

someone around here before had an area she put a bunch of drakes in by themselves. I think they mostly did okay, but there were the occasional problems. i have never done that before. i think the general consensus is that females are better for an all one sex flock.

Don't put male ducks togetter, put one male and females, i never had problems put with different breed togetter, they are friendly.
