Duckbill scrape or peel?

I went outside this morning and saw that my drake has what looks like an injury on his bill.
I thought maybe he had scraped it on the bottom of the coop where the hardware cloth meets the ground.
But I looked around and didn't see a disturbance.
Could this peeling back be a sign of something else?

I’ll need closer pictures to be sure but it could be either or. Duck bills do shed sometimes

It seems to me looking better. I think it was just shedding.

Runners as they age revert back to white if any color but white. My blue runner is mostly white and my black ones looks just like @Enigmius Runners. Only one that hasn’t changed in coloring is my silver or maybe she has but it just doesn’t show.
