Hi, hoping someone can help. My duckling is just over two weeks old, she appears to have difficulties walking as one leg keeps slipping too far out. She is on puppy pads which the other duckling isn’t having an issue walking on. I add brewers yeast to their food for vitamin B. She has never been too steady on her feet but I thought the brewers yeast would resolve this. Unfortunately, over the past 48 hours it seems to be getting progressively worse. Just wonder if anyone could help before I take her to the vets tomorrow. Please find attached the photo below:

also if anyone could identify the breed, that would be appreciated! They were shipped eggs and supposed to be crested Indian runners.

Thank you, I did suspect that but as new duck owner I wasn’t sure. She had issues walking but her leg has only started splaying to side in the past couple of days. I was initially told that she was weaker due to a lack of vitamin B and that brewers yeast should help.

Yes, definitely get the liquid vitamin B complex Miss Lydia mentioned started as quick as you can. I had a duckling who had this issue last spring because she grew so quickly, and I had been adding brewer's yeast as well. I used the stretchy first aid tape - also called vet wrap - and used it to wrap around and hold her legs in the proper position. The vet wrap sticks to itself and will be strong enough to stay in place and keep her legs aligned where they should be. With the vitamin B she will grow stronger and her legs will start to stabilize, but it will take awhile. Maybe 2-3 weeks. In the meantime let her swim everyday to exercise her legs and once you have the hobbles on you can set her on her feet and support her a little bit to help her for short bits of time until she's doing it on her own. Here are my ducks last summer where two are wearing the hobbles:

I use puppy pads too - they are a god-send. We have a duck with a few special needs, a few days with the splayed legs being one of them. He did struggle on puppy pads and once we put shavings down, he got better along with full time access to duck lucozade (water, bvits, ace+selenium vits, splash of acv and some honey). He had a tough birth and he's from a crappy gene pool but Wonky Duck is still trucking !

We didnt hobble because of all the other challenges poor Wonky Duck had - but if there was nothing else going on, I would have hobbled him in a heartbeat.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay in get back to you, I am really grateful for all your responses. Tina started getting better, we used a hobble to get her feet back in the right place. However, she seems to have developed some other disability. Her crop is huge and wonky which causes her to fall on her back a lot. At first it was just a couple of times but now it’s every five minutes. I’m unsure as to whether it’s her crop or her neck that is in the wrong place but she is really struggling, I’ll attach a photo below for you to have a look at. Today’s been really bad for her but she doesn’t seem to be in pain, and is happy eating, drinking and swimming. I’m taking her to the vets tomorrow but I was hoping someone else had experienced this and had some positive news for me. Thanks in advance

I should add that Tina is 5 weeks old now but hasn’t grown any adult feathers and is a lot smaller than my 2 week old ducklings
