I have a 14 week old black Swedish duckling. She lives with a pekin, a golden, a cayuga, and a blue Swedish that are the same age. She is not growing well though. She eats and drinks, but seems to keep getting weaker. Any ideas?? Anything i can do? Right now it feels like i am just watching her die. Thanks in advance :)

Do you supplement with any poultry vitamins?

She could have something genetic going on, heart problems comes to mind. for 1 I lost a Muscovy duckling at about 3 months to I am pretty sure heart problems. I hope this isn't true of yours but i would consider adding a good poultry vitamin to her water and won't hurt the others for them to drink it. How does her poo look her feathers? Chance she could have an infection Only a vet could of course answer that question.

I don't...any you would recommend? Sadly, she died yesterday evening, but i don't want the other 4 ducklings to die. Her poo seemed fine, but her feathers were not coming in like the others were. The other swedish i have, a blue one, is also smaller and weaker than the others, but not nearly as bad as kira. Do swedish ducks grow slower or have common genetic problems?

I like Poultry Nutri Drench nice thing about it is if you need to it can be given straight in the bill[not down the throat] if one is weak and not drinking or eating. There are other poultry vitamins if you can't get PND I know TSC carries it.

I'd go on the Swedish duck thread and talk to others that have them to see if they have had any genetic problems in their birds. I hope your Swedish will be okay I'd dif start her on something to help boost her immune system asap.

Please keep us updated on Kira

This Sav-A-Chick Electrolyte and Probiotic has allways worked well for me. I get them both at tractor supply. I have used them for all my ducks as I got them from a few days old. I use a gallon water jug dump one packet of each in and use that to mix it. Then dump from there into their water container. I also get niacin at GNC or wal mart and dump one table of that into a gallon jug as its supposed to help prevent let deformities. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

These are great products, main reason I recc PND is because if you have a weak duckling etc it can be given straight it doesn't have to go through the gut to get to the blood stream it goes straight to it so it works super fast. and it can be mixed into their water also.

Cityfarmer are you also using a niacin supplement or Brewers yeast. good point werewolf made about it.

no i am not currently using niacin or brewers...is one better than the other and do they each have their own benefits or are they about the same?

I have used both but I keep PND on hand because if I have one that won't eat or drink I can give PND straight into the mouth and it goes to work fast.

I use Brewers yeast. I like the idea of a more natural way of giving the niacin. other use niacin tab it is just getting harder to find plain niacin unless you go to GNC or other natural health stores.
