Hi again :) My ducklings are just starting to hatch in the incubator. The first one to pip has done so on the wrong end, over 24 hours ago. I've read that they can often be completely fine and that I can keep an eye on him for up to 36 hours. I just want to make sure this looks okay or does it look like it's too dry/needs help? Thanks so much!

If she can hatch properly its fine

When this happened with a peacock egg I was hatching, I kept misting it with a fine spray every half hour or so. I eventually gave a little assistance by slowly making the hole bigger. Worked out for this bird but doesn't always pay off to intervene.

I Just had a hatch this past couple days where 2 ducklings pipped at the wrong end. In my instance I had to help both after almost 48 hours.

If you can see the beak watch for yawning. If it’s doing yawning motions it’s still absorbing yolk. That is where assisted hatching goes wrong. If done too early you risk breaking veins & causing bleeding or if the duckling comes out early & hasn’t absorbed all the yolk then you risk infections & a super lethargic duckling.

How many eggs are left in the incubator?
