Duckling still attached to umbilical cord?

One of my welsh harlequin ducklings was shrink wrapped yesterday and needed assistance in getting out of the egg. I came to check on the duckling this morning and it had come out of the remainder of the shell, but it looks like the umbilical cord is still attached. Is there anything I should do? Will this go away on its own?

I can’t see because of the red light. I hope there’s not intestines hanging out. If it’s just a dried umbilical cord, you should cut it quickly before it pulls all its intestines out.

If the intestines are already pulled out, you probably should put the duck out of its misery because it will likely die

I really hope that’s not the case… here’s some better photos for reference.

It could be the yolk sac that it is still absorbing. Once it’s dry you can clip it off I believe. How is the duckling acting?
The duckling has been acting stronger than when it first hatched. It made it through the night just fine and is moving around more, I’ve just never seen anything like this before

I haven’t ever seen it that bad. I always clip it before it pulls their umbilical/intestines out. That looks fleshy. I would not want to clip it. Can you apply neosporin (without the pain relief).
Hope it goes well.

It passed away. It ended up being intestines. Thank you all for the help.

Sorry for your loss. It’s hard to loose them.
I try to keep qtips, scissors, and neosporin close by. If you see their umbilical cord getting pulled you can snip it if it’s dry or hold pressure with the qtip (sort of push their gut back in. Then wait till it dries and clip it.

It is, I’m hoping the other eggs won’t have a similar problem.

I’ll definitely have those on hand when I see the other eggs start to hatch. Thank you for the help!
