Duckling with an abcess

One of our Pekin ducklings that is three weeks old and has an abcess where it was bitten by a rat. The cheek and eye are affected. We gave one shot of penicillin and applied topical antibiotic ointment. Does anybody have ideas on more we can do? How soon should we give it another shot?

How much antibiotic was in the injection? This is not my area of expertise, but giving this information might help someone help you.

Also, I would put a warm Epsom salts compress on the wound, making sure the duckling does not ingest any of the Epsom salts, because it is a strong laxative.

It was .1ml of penicillin and the Epsom salts is a good idea, we can soak a paper towel in it and then hold it on.
