Hi everyone!

My friend had to relocate to an apartment so she gifted me her 2 Muscovy ducklings about a week ago. The ducklings are about a month and a week old, and are very bonded to humans and being inside. It came to a point where if she left them outside for a few minutes, they wouldn’t stop chirping until she came back. I thought that being in a new environment with different people would help this, but it haven’t... the chirping has come to a point where my neighbors complained.

I live in Hawaii so the weather holds in the mid 70s all day long. Because of this, I want to start keeping them outside during the day. They are starting to get big and stink up the house. I have an enclosed yard with a predator proofed pen waiting for them, but when I am out of eyesight, the chirping starts. I have been getting so desperate as to stuffing some of my clothes with towels in order for them to think that it was me.

Do you have any tips to help keep down the chirping and help them become more comfortable without a human??

Thanks!!

When you have the time, let them outside as much as possible. Leave for a minute or two, then come back. Keep doing this and leaving for longer periods of time. When you come back, give them treats and such

Thank you so much! I have been trying it for a few days now, and the times seem to range. Sometimes I can leave for half an hour before they start going haywire, and other times I can only be away for 45 seconds... these duckings are giving me a run for my money.
