Ducklings eating bedding!

Does anyone have any alternative bedding ideas for two ducklings? I just put them into their new diggs and it had large natural wood shavings as bedding... So of course they decided to eat it. So I took them back out and covered the bedding with fabric... So I could regroup! Now what? I really need some help on what I should be putting in there!!

I think old towels or sheets over shavings may be the best thing.

My runners ate shavings, so we used old towels. Let me say, with eleven ducklings . . . .

Just make sure they cannot burrow under edges to get to the shavings. My runner lings used to get at the puppy pads that were under the plastic lining of the brooder and chew on the insides. gag.
