ducklings eating wood shavings???

Hi! my duckling have been eating their wood shavings and two ducklings have died

is it bad for them to be eating wood shavings??? is that why they died?? how can I get them to stop???

Yes it is. It can get stuck in their tummies. I only use newspaper and paper towel. They eat the paper once in a while but it seems to come back out pretty easy. I would change to paper or something that will disolve.

I hope my ducklings will be okay, they are under a broody hen(chicken) in a nest of shavings and hay. but the feed and water area is newspaper.
being under a mama hen, will they be okay as far as not eating the shavings? mama should hopefully show them where to go to eat.
now I'm worried. I don't want to lose any.

I've read that this doesn't always happen, some people have gotten away safely with using shavings. so, fingers crossed mama shows them proper.
