ducklings eating woodchips???

Does anyone know why the ducklings eat woodchips, and will it hurt them ?

if they eat enough it can cause therm to get a blockage, you might want to cover the shaving with an old towel or the rubber shelving both can be shaken and washed, usually by week 2 they stop trying to eat shaving.

I worried about the same thing with my ducklings. They're like toddlers and have to put everything in their mouths to check it out. If they do eat any it's not much and they're still pooping like champs, so...

Sometimes they appear to be eating something they're not supposed to but actually spit it out when it won't tear apart or go down. I thought mine were eating their pine shavings, but they were really moving and sifting the shavings.

This is a good point. Mine have all been raised on shavings, nobody has ever eaten them, truffled through hoping to find something yummy? yes for sure but actual hmmm this is tasty.nope.

I've never seen mine eating shaving either, but I am thinking it happens since others have posted about it, I'd rather not take the chance if the OP thinks their ducklings might be eating them, sometimes the shaving are fine and I think thats when the ducklings are more apt to eat some. TSC has both fine and flake, If anyone ever asks I say flake. I have some very old towels i keep on hand just in case.

This is true, i just felt it was a good point that the other poster made, it can appear they are doing something there not.. with that little beak nosing through the bedding.

I know I just worry, mainly because I have only had to brood 1 duckling by myself and Had never been a duck mommie before so I took every per caution I don't worry at all when mama duck has the ducklings. That was a good point Dand J made.
