Ducks and my pond

Hello. I am looking to get a few ducks for my backyard but I have a very large koi pond and have read all about what ducks ca do to my fish. My question is if I have my landscaper install a separate small pond just for them is it possible to train them to stay out of my koi pond and only use the pond built for them??

If the koi pond is within their sight or within walking distance for them, they are going to get in it. Your best bet might be fencing around the koi pond- but even that isn’t a guarantee to keep them out!

I'm really sorry, but the fact that you've even said "koi pond" and "ducks" in the same paragraph means that at this very moment, your koi pond is ruined, your fish are all dead, and there are several honking, humping, digging little dinosaurs currently destroying your lawn. You might have been safe if you had thought it without saying it, but probably not. Don't be too hard on yourself.
