I was in the process of making my ducklings (are they still called ducklings at 10 weeks) a bigger water container. Right now I fill a smaller 1 gallon tub whenever I see it empty or gross. I was going to get a bigger container and connect it to a 32 gal garbage can and have it self fill. My husband questioned why I needed a separate water source when they have the pool.

That made me wonder. Right now thy drink out of the pool and also bring their food over to it and make a mess. I actually have the food at the other end of their space. About 12 feet give or take away. They poop and do what ever ducks do in there. I know I can't really stop them from drinking the water. I do clean it daily is he nuts for thinking they would be fine with just the pool water?

mine only get pool water. @DuckyDonna seid that her pool water gets so dirty in one day you could stand a stick in it :gig

if you like filling a smaller dish then its fine, most would say food should be close to the water

Ducks eat dirt all day long, Even week old pool water wont hurt them

Oh wow thank you so much.
I was reading to keep the food and water away from each other so they make less mess. I don't have that set up permantly so I will change that around.
With all this rain we have there is water everywhere. My ducks are for sure eating mud :D

How many duck do you have @Jpat ? How often do you change yours? Last year I had like 4 water pans, 2 water gallons and the pool. If I can get away with fewer water sources I would be a happy duck. It would be a lot less time emptying cleaning and refilling everyday.

Right now i change ever 3 days because they do get realy excited for clear water

Thats alot of running around for you! Definitly either with just the pool, how many do you have?

I did have 25 ducks at the time. Let’s just say duck math was a very real thing last year.

I've got 7 runners and like Jpat said, at the end of each day or actually way before that, you could stand a stick up in their water it's so nasty! I clean their medium sized kiddie pool out every single night and it just about gags me with the smell now that the weather is warm. I also have 4 bucket for drinking water out that get cleaned and replenished every single night. I even set up their other pool in another part of their run about a week ago and they haven't touched it one time. It's clear as glass still so apparently grossness is no problem for the ducks, just for me!

My babies have pool only in the summer. Ducks will be ducks:lau

P.S. I call my year old ducks ducklings still so I think you’re just fine calling the 10 week olds ducklings;)
