I have one of those rubber shelf liners over the side of the pool to give the ducks grip when they go in and out.

Well I changed it yesterday at the other one was getting worn. I changed it from white to black.. and they could not figure out for the life of them how to get into the pool.
They know where they usually get in just didn't look right to them

I have their pool on pallets, then I have one of the larger size pools and to get in they walk on top of a sand bag i have there and put their foot on the side and bloop they are in, there is a large cement step in there for them.

finally after trying to let them figure it out by themselves, (I just clean the pool and it was filling so they were all excited to get in)

I managed to take each one, put them in the pool and they knew where their little step inside the pool was so once they figured that out it was all super from there, they did this before and they did it when I switch their small coop to the shed as their larger coop. or when I put something new down that isn't green and leafy or tomatoes lol

how does your ducks deal with change?

I'm glad your ducks were able to figure it out!

My two are immediately suspicious of anything new & refuse to go near it. Which is a problem for them, because they are destructive ducks! They currently have no ramp (only the bricks to get in & out) to their pool because they destroyed their old one & any of my attempts to replace it with something differently colored is immediately snubbed.

wow duck destroyers lol.
my ducks are more scared of things than my chickens.. heck my littlest chicken is the first to check things out my ducks are like ACK WHAT IT THAT NEW THING AND NEW COLOR..

Fully agree with the thread!
On Sunday i was finally able to finish the fence around ~2000sqft of pasture around the house and when i removed the fence between the old and the new extended area my duckies could not believe it: It took them a long time to accept that their fence was gone, they were looking really concerned when crossing the old fence line - until they discovered that the new area was full of grasshoppers…
Their chicken-coop (don't tell them that their house is not a duck-house, please!) is located on a wooden platform with a roof and there's a step from that platform down to the grass. I wanted to be nice and installed a "ramp" (piece of plywood). For days the Duckies tried their best not to touch that new thing…
Except for new food, ducks do not like any changes!
