Ducks dumped in Yard

Hi. I was babysitting my friends chickens this last week. Friday night when I went over to feed and water her animals, these two ducks were in the fence. I took them home with me as she does not have duck food or proper water dispensers for them. Any ideas what they are?? The first picture is from my friends house where they were dumped.... the second is in the "house" that we built for my brooder and then for the adult ducks to go into at night.

Also, what age can I move them out of the brooder and into the yard? I think some of them are ready to move out but that would leave only two in the brooder. Is it okay to leave just the two of them in there? Thanks

The grey one might be a blue Swedish, the brown one could be a Golden Hybrid 300, or a female khaki campbell. They look old enough to be outside. It should be okay to keep two in, you just don't want to leave one by itself.

Very nice of you to take them in. Not very nice of someone to just dump them.

Thank you. I do not understand people doing that. She has received a number of animals over the years this way. Someone even cut her fence, put a horse in, repaired the fence and left it. She named her "Free"
I couldn't leave them there without something to swim in or the proper feed. It wouldn't be right. I am trying to re home them right now as I was trying to keep my flock to Cayugas and Mallards but I won't get rid of them if no one else wants them.

I'd be careful to introduce them with your flock as you don't know if they carry any disease or sickness. I would quarentine them, but if they look healthy it's up to you....we have stuff happen like this where I live too, so I'm happy that you took on this responsibility when so many others don't

I just talked to my girlfriend (she just got back from out of town) and it turns out her mother in law dropped them off. She bought them at the feed store here in town, does not know what breed they are, and after two weeks with them, decided they were too much for her so she dropped them at my gf's house because she "knew she would take care of them". Of course, she bought them when they were cute, little and cuddly and as soon as they got bigger, decided they didn't work the way she wanted them to. Steams me a little bit but at the same time, I will excuse her behaviour this once since she just went through a big cancer scare. So at least now that I know where they came from, I can put them in with the flock without stressing about what they are bringing into it. Hopefully they are both girls since I am really trying to make sure my Mallard drake is the only male in the flock. I do have a girlfriend who wants only males, though so if they do turn out to get their drake tail, I can take them to her house. She wants them as pets and doesn't want the noise or the eggs from the hens. Thank you all for your assistance. I really appreciate everyone on this forum. I have learned so much from all of you!

Goodness. What's done is done, you have done quite well by them, I am relieved to know there is at least one person who likes having a drake flock. I have thought of it myself, but we are happy with our girls and one boy.
