When my Peking Ducks start laying eggs, could I leave one or 2 eggs in the nest and take the others? Would the mom still sit on the 1-2 eggs left? Would the eggs hatch? And if they do hatch, will the mom take care of them? Would the mom turn mean and be mean toward me if I went in the pen with her and the other ducks? Thanks

you do get that not all eggs will be fertile, they should hatch if they are fertile and she broods correctly.

yes she should remain on the eggs as long as she doesnt get tramutized by the experience be sure to just be gentle and calm when u take the eggs.

she should be able to take car of her own babies

Yes, I know they wouldn't al be fertile lol. I was going to do the candling method thing to see if there was a duck inside. And one more question I forgot to add, will the 2 other ducks kill he baby ducks if they hatch? And will the other 2 ducks mess with the eggs? I've never done this before lol

ohh its a learning experience for all of us at one point, lol

they shouldn't bother her but it could happen and they might best thing to do is give them mom her own private enclosure when she goes broody.

you can check for candeling as early as seven days but by day 12 they should be totally visible :)

best of luck

They will if they are allowed to do so...but a mother duck is a pretty fierce opponent.

Would the mother be mean toward me, or just toward other ducks do you know? I don't want any of my ducks to get killed, adult or baby. I don't want the mother to fight another duck and kill it :hu

ohh there usually isnt any killing as long as ur ducks don show any hostility towards the nest or her they should leave her completly alone.

Ok great! And if the duck lays eggs and I leave them for a week then collect 5 out of 7 of them for example (5 of them aren't fetile) could I still eat the 5 even after a week? Would the mom still sit on the eggs if I took most of them away after leaving them for a week?

It only takes a few warnings from momma duck for the others to get the idea. And unless you try to mess with her nest, she'll likely leave you alone. She'll give you a warning first too. lol

You shouldn't eat the eggs that are infertile. They would be starting to decompose. Mom shouldn't be too bothered by the missing eggs. I try to do my candling after they've gone to bed for the night. It seems to stress them less.
