So I want to get two Pekin ducklings to raise as pets and companions. I live in a two bedroom apartment but there's a lot of parkland in the area; is the enough space for the ducks? If not, which breed would it better for? Also, how do you take care of ducks over the winter, our winter lasts 5 months and it's cold most of the year with occasional rains. Apart from this, any other information would be much appreaticated! Thank you in advance, I am looking forward to becoming a fellow fowl enthusiast!

Well first off i'd find out if there even legal to own, especially in an apartment. For my area(which i know varies) you must be zoned Rural to own any livestock and yes, that includes, ducks and chickens.

Personally, i wouldn't want pekin as house ducks there much to big, you need decent room. And i am a huge believer in outdoor space. I am actually no stranger to somewhat house raised birds, i have 12 in my house right now, 2 calls, 2 buffs, 2 Muscovy and 6 silkies but they will be leaving this house as soon as proper outdoor housing is arranged!

It's loads of work, with them being brooded inside, messy and noisy well the mallard derived are!! There are some threads here on house ducks which i would search out, as again mine do eventually leave!

As well here is a sticky on raising ducklings as a whole..
