When I was changing the water this morning I found three eggs in their bath. They had been completely disolved and the only thing that was left was the outer skin and the yolk. They had expended to about the size or a baseball! Anyone else had this happen. and our ducks are 2 x 8 month old muscovys. one is definately laying but not sure about the other one.

Sometimes when ducks first start to lay they just let them fall out where ever. I have found eggs in the pool before and even along side of the pool, but never seen one expand to the size of a baseball. when they first lay they can lay strange looking eggs too, do you feed layer and also oyster shell? explain what you mean by expanded to the size of a baseball? if only the outer shell and yolk were left.

The water had all gotten in the egg (what was left and not disolved) and couldn't get out. We give then shell grit and baristock top layer mash and red hen chook feed.

Since they are young they will have to learn where is the best place to lay, make sure to give them a nice quiet darkened spot inside of their house where they can feel safe. they will learn, also most ducks lay early in the morning some before daylight so maybe leaving them inside a bit longer in the morning may help. Sounds kinda like a water balloon. LOL

Could be that the duck laid an egg without a shell. We've gotten a few of those. Without a shell, osmosis will force water into the egg and it will expand as far as the elasticity of the membrane allows.
