I am new to the community but have been looking for all of my answers on this site. Very helpful. I do not own any chickens, just 5 ducks. I have a mallard drake and female and then 3 female Indian Runners. They bring me much joy. The mallards are about 10 months old while the runners are about 6 weeks younger. Both the mallard and 2 of the runners started laying eggs about 7 months old so I have been consistently getting 3 eggs a day. About a month ago I started getting 4 eggs a day everyday. Now as of yesterday I am back down to 3 eggs a day. Is this normal? I feed them layer pellets, kale and various other fruits and veggies very regularly. They get some mealworms occasionally as well.

Hi and welcome to BYC. Like NFC i have no clue about ducks, but the peeps on the link given are very helpful and friendly so feel free to ask your questions there.

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Welcome to Duckburg!
Not the experienced duck-owner, just have five seven month old Indian runners and the three girls just have started to lay.
Katharina, the largest female just started to lay eggs, no strings attached. She now just runs into the house, lays her egg and is back out in no time.
The second female, Curiosity, started laying a week later, smaller eggs and observing her on the camera she seemed to have a lot of pain while laying her egg. This has gotten better in the last couple of days, but she's still wining in her nest.
Now the smallest female, NoName Duck, first laid a soft egg, then a small-egg with a hard shell, then a really tiny egg and finally stopped laying.

It is quite unusual for ducks at our latitude to even lay eggs during the winter time and with newbie-layers everything can happen from soft-shelled eggs to double yolkers, no yolkers to taking time off from the laying business. Don't be concerned, your ducks will figure it out during spring.
Make sure they have an additional calcium supply (oyster shells) and they'll be fine. I would not feed layer-crumbles if you have drakes, they could develop kidney problems from too much calcium. It is better to have the calcium supply separate for the girls, i'm feeding meatbird crumbles, cracked corn and scratch grain to all and the girls have a small cup with oyster-shells hanging in the house.
Enjoy the eggs and this community!:highfive:
