Ive got 8 golden cascade 7 week old ducks and have had them out in the hen/poultry house for 2 weeks now. I also have some other older chickens but have 2 additional 9 week old pullets that were part of meat bird batch.( Meat birds gone but these pullets are easter Eggers) SO my ducks are terrified of the little gals and the other chickens and I only house them together at night. in separate pens. My question is , do the ducks ever get over their hysteria of chickens? Im worried about injuries to the ducks in efforts to keep away from chickens. They pile up on each other in a corner or run pell mell all over or back into chicken house. the 2 pullets have been in the same yard for over a week now but the duck's terror has never abated. I have a much larger yard that I let my other chickens out into but was keeping the little ones around till they were a bit bigger and use to the yard and house. Maybe I need to let them all sort it out?
any advice ? Thank you for your time. Enjoy your day. Rachael

Are the chickens showing aggression towards the ducks?
No, they seem to want to be friends. No pecking or attacking.I haven't let the other 8 chickens meet them yet, but was hoping to open up the whole yard to everyone. its size is 20 ft wide by 100 ft long. The panic seems to intensify by the end of the day. where just a look from pullets will send the ducks off.

My ducks used to be terrified of my chickens. As the chickens got bigger and able to breach the fencing, I've had to keep them in a chicken tractor during the day instead of let them free range all over the yard, otherwise they'd be all over my neighbors' yards. The ducks can't get past the fence so they still free range. With the chickens in the tractor and the ducks free ranging near them, they've stopped being afraid of them. They used to just be terrified but now they'll go and sit beside the chicken tractor, and when the chickens come out of the tractor to go in for the night, the ducks don't run away anymore. I think being able to see them but being able to choose when to go near them and still having a barrier while they got used to them has helped.
