I've notice ever since Petunia got bumble foot and I gave her Clavamox for 2 weeks (what my vet described) whenever she gets in the water she looks like a wet dog. She got treated from bumble foot back in October so the medicine should be way out of her system if that's what is affecting her water glands. Can anyone tell me what might to fix it? All the other ducks water glands work. IMG_1654.JPG IMG_1654.JPG

I have read of others “stimulating” their ducks oil gland- it’s right above the base of the tail.

What are you feeding her?

I feed her Nutrena Naturewise Layer with some oyster shells also i feed them treats in the morning.

look at her preen[oil glad] do you see yellow? If not it could be clogged I had a Muscovy duck that would look like Petunia right before she would molt. She'd get water logged when she'd get into the pool but it was still pretty warm so I didn't have to worry about her chilling. Water logged ducks can chill in cold weather. I did use a warm compress on her preen gland when I didn't see the yellow waxy oil around it. I only did it a few times and once she molted and stated preening again the feathers were in great shape. I don't think when they are in molt or right before they preen as much as other times.

Not sure it seems they molt at different times of the year. My Muscovy's molt big in late fall and probably have smaller molts at other times of the year but it isn't as noticeable.

My Runners molted late in the season starting in Dec and a few just finished getting their wing feathers back in. My Buffs late fall. I do think most domestics do molt in spring. But this is only my second year with any breed other than Muscovy. Maybe this crazy weather has something to do with it all.

She may just have what's called wet feather if you look it up you'll find reasons other than molt and it can be fixed pretty easy. As my Muscovy's get into older age they can get wet feather and it can last for months before they molt. Has nothing to do with their preen glad other than maybe it isn't working as good since just like us humans things start slowing down as we age.

Did you look at her preen gland?
