thanks

DHDP are not Duke traps. DH stands for Deer Hunter (the board name of the guy who made it) and DP stands for Dog Proof (just like Duke).

DHDP traps have a slightly different design and spring catch configuration than the Duke DPs. Allegedly, DHDPs are safer and easier to set since there is only enough spring tension to keep the critters leg (or your finger) in the trap. They also are easier to de-tension in the event you want to live release the critter or remove your finger in case you get pinched by accident. Duke DPs are no joke and have a heavier spring tension. Catch your finger in a Duke DP and you will feel the difference (ouch!).

Both are competitively priced (around $15 out the door).

I have the Duke DP and it works as prescribed. The DHDPs will do the job too.

in your opinion, which is the best, i want to catch and not release raccoons. how hard is it to set the dukes? do you have to have a "setting"pin for the dukes? how do you bait them , and with what, we always used the havaheart but the last couple of nights, eats the bait doesn't spring the trap and killed a chicken

Dukes are easy to set and I use marshmallow or cat food behind the trigger. On your live trap try a can of tuna with holes drilled in it, and wire tie it to the cage in the back, cover the end with hardware cloth so they can not reach in..

thanks, we've used can cat food, tuna, dry cat food and marsh mellows . the dry has worked pretty good for us, once we taught the cats to stay away, that was easy but the last couple of nights, what ever it is, has eaten the food, not set the trap off and last night, at ate both the cat food and killed a chicken and ate the insides, tonight along with the havahearts, going to also set a weasel trap, just in case, if we don't catch it soon, will clean me out of my buff laced brahma's
any other idea's?
its funny, wed. morning at 4 heard a hen screaming for help right under my bedroom window, jumped up, ran outside, couldn't find anything, went back to bed and then at 5, same thing, all i could find were feathers so thought, thats it, he caught both of my ameracanas hens and killed them, but when it got daylight, found both hens alive, altho my blue hen had been bitten twice on the back, but alive, the partridge hen, not a scratch on her, just missing feathers. so that might not have been a coon unless it was a young one who didn't know how to kill. gotta kill whatever it is soon

Can you get what you have left in a secure area? Until you catch the Varmit? Is it entering in the same location you may be able to use a snare if so.

I made an auto door for my coop and they get locked each night.. They know where to come to get a tasty chicken meal now..

well, one down and probably a bunch to go, the one trap set off, nothing , and the weasel trap sprung, nothing, going to have to figure out how they set that one off and didn't catch it, might have had the bait in the wrong place, but the first trap, ahh ha, like i said, one down.
