OK, here's a situation I've never had before. I have a broody who has chosen to sit in a box full of old horse tack. It's safe from predators in there which is fine. She hatched one chick in there, but the chick died before I found it and could move them . I'm assuming because it fell between some of the stuff and couldn't get out. Anyway, mama hen is still broody and insist on sitting in the box although she doesn't have any eggs left. I've decided that if she's that determined I'll give her a couple of eggs from the other hens to hatch, but not in that box. I moved her out and put stuff in her way to deter her from her box, but she got back in anyway. This morning I moved her again and got rid of the box in hopes that she will find another place to sit. She wasn't very happy about it and literally chased my little dog out of the barn like it was him who moved her, but oh well. If she wants to set she's going to have to find another place to do it. She can make a nest in the hay, or in an old dog crate that is in there and be just as safe. As soon as she settles down and finds a new place I'll give her some eggs and see if she hatches them. I've just never had a hen who is so determined.
