So... my "problem" drake that some of you know about decided tonight that the best thing he could think to do was charge me. I went out to pen everyone and walked around the corner to see if the ducks were there. When I got up to the, he opened his mouth and run at me. I of course am irritated with him already, so I charged back. He turns quacking and almost runs into the wall. Dumb duck... Anyone SURE they don't want a free runner drake?

My boy does the same thing when I walk away from him. I now cary a cut off yellow broom handle behind me. It seems to keep him in his place just by having it in my hand.

My old rouen drake use to do that all the time. It's just something very territorial drakes do... He use to chase our feet every time we turned away. My dad use to love picking on him because he thought it was so funny, but I thought it was pretty annoying.

I use to grab him by the beak and flip him over until he stopped struggling. That usually kept him at bay long enough for me to feed and water everyone. Holding his beak and keeping his feet held down was usually the big trick. Maybe you can teach your drake that your alfa duck and he'll calm down. Good luck!

this is funny...lol.. Look at the bright side..i guess you wont have to worry about his lady friends, they will be safe under his watch..

I wish that were the case lol... he's the biggest "chicken" (no offense) about everything. I wish he'd teach the puppy that ducks aren't to be chased while she's little. No, he runs screaming while the hens stand there and stare. It's actually pretty hilarious. The DF likes him do this. He thinks it's funny. I just don't like bad mannors or behavior in any of my pets.

He thinks he protecting his girls from you big scary hairy humans..

Hes just doing his job. Think of it like this...if a predator comes around he'll go after it and maybe save the other ducks.
