My girls are only 7 weeks, so I have nesting boxes blocked. But once I give them access, when do they normally go in and lay their eggs?
Morning, after getting up??

It varies. Some of mine lay their eggs at sunrise, others in the afternoon. Others switch back and forth depending on how their laying schedule happened to line up.

The status quo answer: It takes "about" 25 hours for an egg to work it's way through the plumbing system. So, if your pullet lays her egg at 6 AM on Monday, her next egg may arrive around 7 AM on Tuesday, and so on. Eventually, she will be laying an egg in the late afternoon. Then, she may skip a day, with the next egg arriving at 6 AM.

Some hens lay an egg almost every day, with the world record being set by a Black Australorpe who laid 364 eggs in a 365 day cycle. Other hens are no where near as productive, and may lay 3 - 5 eggs/week. A hen also lays less eggs with each successive year of her laying cycle. Day length and nutrient levels will also enter the productivity equation.
