My hen has been showing all the signs of laying her first egg soon. Squatting, red comb, new voice patterns. So I put a couple dummy eggs in the box so she knows where she can lay her egg, now Every time I go to clean or check the coop she runs up to check on the egg box and moves the dummy egg around with her beak and squawks at me. Well today I found her sitting in the egg box and I thought maybe she might be trying to lay an egg but no she is just guarding the pink porcelain egg. Crazy bird. Any day now for a real egg I hope

So now she's singing the egg song and the others join in a chorus. But nothing,no egg, and I looked everywhere.

about the time you quit hoping, and are resigned to never having any of them laying eggs, there will be the surprise. It is the 2nd longest part of raising chickens. You would think that 4.5 months would be much longer than 21 days, but only if you have never set a clutch to hatch.
