Duramycin and eggs

For wounds like these, maybe next time try Veterycin, available at TSC & most feed stores. It is a topical spray with no antibiotics. Convenient spray bottle. I used it once for a guinea with a severe eye injury from a fight. Just stood back & sprayed it at him once or twice a day & within 3 days it looked almost normal. It is expensive, but lasts a long time.

Thank you, that is good to know. I may pick some up tomorrow. Will it discourage the pecking? I discovered a third hen has been pecked on too but not as bad. We are in the process of adding on to their run and house. The house expansion is done except for an access door on the back. The run will be finished Saturday. The two that have been kept separate are laying eggs. Although the one hasn't laid one today. They are typically laying every other day. I think tomorrow will be the last day I give them the duramycin. I may end up just having to get rid of the main hen that is pecking. I don't know yet.

Some birds are just into pecking, and will be a problem until they are gone. Some breeds/ strains are worse than others. Crowding is a huge factor in promoting this behavior; that's why caged layers are debeaked. Your overly bossy hen may fit in better in another flock, or just be good in the crock pot. Mary

Mary, I will either find her a new home or get her her own coop and run before I ever put her in the crock pot. I'm sorry but I didn't get chickens to eat them! She is my pet and I will do whatever I can that's humane to stop the behavior.
