Dustbaths??

Petemoss ... where could I find that? At a feed store?

I get it at any garden center, Walmart, Kmarts.
Agway's 3.8 cubic feet about $10.00.
it goes along ways, too.

So if I got something like a kitty litter pan and put some sand and dirt in it, how much DE should I add?

If they have access to ground, no, they'll take care of it. Mine never caused any problems by eating the plants in my garden, they just tore it up in their eternal search for a good dust bath.

For some reason, the same one just won't do. They just sort of move on to a new one after awhile. Except now, hopefully, that we've moved out to the country. They LOVE the loose dirt in the barn and roll and flap in it every day.

Mine love to go into one of my horses stalls when the sun comes through. They multitask by sunbathing and a dust bath in sawdust. We put de in their regular dustbath lol:D

If they have access to a yard or an open-ground run they will figure it out on their own. You will soon be the proud owner of a few dirt holes.

They take dust baths as a way to prevent mites.

I dump ash into my sand pile and mix it in. When we clean the coop and run I add some fresh sand along with a bag of gravel. They seem to love it and go nuts. Especially when its sunny and warm.
