I hatched a silky with a clutch of six mixed breed and silky chick's. She was the first silky chick to hatch and the biggest of them at the time. For the first few months she kept up in size with her silky broodmare. But then a sickness swept through our birds like a hurricane. Said sickness took all but two of that brood and most the other chick's we hatched last summer to. She got it too and looked bad for a while. Now she is six months old, doing well but is half the size she should be. She is also still losing her baby feathers. She eats well enough and is really active and happy to. But she doesn't have a flock of her own because her surviving sister bullied her and had to take her inside for extra care. How can we safely integrate such a small chicken with our adult bantams?

This would probably get more attention in another section of the forum, but following any of the integration methods discussed on here should do the trick. If she is very small and timid you may need to trim her crest so she can see well. How large is she in comparison to your adult bantams?

What one should it go in? She is like the width of my hand from side to side, and when standing the is about as tall as the side of my palm to my out stretched thumb from feet to back. Compared to the adults she would probably come about to their breasts.

Yeah, I'm going to need pictures. @Overo Mare, you measure horses in hands. Want to try your hand at figuring out how big this bird is?

There are many bantam breeds and many sizes. Is this compared to an OEGB? Bantam Cochin? Bantam RIR?

It's being compared to a bantam silky. I'll get pics if I can.
Unless you are in the UK it's just a Silkie. Ours are a blend of the large fowl and the bantam varieties over here in the states, which is why they are in between in size. If you're just adding her to a flock of Silkies I wouldn't worry about it that much. Silkies are really passive. I've never had an issue integrating mine with one another.

It's a flock of Easter egger bantams, old English bantams, sebright bantam and d'uccle bantams. We have a relatively mean silky roo but he will be going.
