Anyone want to try and get the chicken/poultry law in Dyer changed? Or found a loophole? I’ve considered quail for the health benefits, as well. It seems so silly this rule is still in place w local communities in Indiana and Illinois allowing backyard chickens. Help!

Many municipalities in Illinois do not allow chickens also. It is an uphill battle to get things changed. It is like trying to get little marxists to give up control over the people. I know some communities did succeed, but few.
In some of the suburbs here in Illinois, chickens are prohibited, but quail are allowed.
I think the major reason for many chicken prohibition, is the potential for Rooster fighting. The city councils just broad blanket rule,,,, NO CHICKENS,, and nothing further is said.
I am of course very much opposed to rooster fighting,, but there are many individuals that would do such a cruel act. Mainly with the gambling involved. :old :(

Thanks for your reply. I know it depends from town to town. I did have a few friends in illinois get it changed for them, but I do understand the rooster thing. I’d be more than happy w quail, lol I wasn’t sure if I should just go for it since game birds are mentioned or does anyone in town have any experience. I know friends have said they are much quieter and won’t bother neighbors so just start with those if laws change you can expand later.

With quail,, they start to lay very early on,,,, and they don't live very long lives. I never ate quail eggs myself,, but have understanding they are very nutritious,,, but small of course. Most peeps that raise quail, do so in limited size cages. There is a reason for that.. Those cages can also be kept inside a garage on a roll away type of base.
