I tried to dye our brown eggs for Easter last year using the Paas pellets but the dye ended up rubbing off.

I did scrub them, then boiled them then tried to dye them. I am not sure what happened or why the dye would rub off. I am worried about trying it again this year. I also have a lot of my family wanting eggs for coloring this weekend but as I am not sure they will take the color I am leary of giving them out.

Please let me know if you have any ideas that would help the eggs take the dye or if I need to try something different.

Thanks,

Emily

Did the Paas tabs call for vinegar? They always did when i was a kid (a long time ago) but when i did them with grandgirl last time they didn't. We didn't have any trouble with the dye on green or brown eggs, they turned out kinda pretty, i thought. Vinegar might help the dye penetrate better.

I always include a tablespoon of vinegar in every color cup no matter what the instructions say. I'd be curious to see what natural dyes do with brown eggs, too.
