We have a mixed flock of chickens of various ages. We are losing a chicken about once every month or 2. They separate themselves, act quiet, hunch over and usually die within a week or so. We have treated one of the younger ones with Baytril and she responded well. It is strange that whatever the problem is, it is slowly moving through the flock and only hits one bird at a time. We have gone from 20 to 16 in the course of the late winter to early summer. Anyone know what this could be? Thanks.

It could be most anything....have you wormed them ? they need to be wormed twice a year...they could have mites or lice have you checked them for that.. ?...~Charm

Thanks for our replies. No lice or mites. No symptoms of respiratory issues. Not egg bound. They free range over a large area and get plenty of grain and water. I have never wormed them, thought that we didn't have to do that here in Vt.?
