Has anyone answered the questions in this forum? The same thing happened to my goose/gander at the college. She usually honks and runs to me when I get there and I found her sitting and slowly opens and closes her mouth with a small squawk may could have been a little crackly,...it has been raining and a lot of Canadian Geese have been coming to the lake, her and Shorty are ALWAYS together,...I picked her up and took her to the car to take her to the vet and she died in my arms and my heart is in my stomach and I am SICK,...I NEED to know what happened? We don't know her age but she has been at the college pond for maybe up to 8 yrs.,.. No trauma on her body. I recently made her a little open face shelter so she can see what is going on at her little lake. Mallards come and go and last year 12 females stayed and quite a bit more this year having such a Midwest warm Winter
I need some help and guidance on what happened and what should I do about poor Shorty, they were always connected,...Mama watched out for her something fierce,..I have not buried her yet,..this JUST happened,...please help me?!?
She was a domesticated white goose that someone dumped at the college years ago and I have been taking cracked corn and seed for them since everyone else feeds them bread and it is normally her and Shorty (Pekin duck) and she took such good care of protecting Shorty from the Canadian geese that come and go. I mentioned this because I know there is a chance that they could have brought diseases. She has been fine and I saw No signs of trauma, she was used to the traffic of people jogging and dogs and kids and had a few favorite people and she let the others know that I was HER/HIS human and she got the royal treatment. She would get in my lap and close her eyes and tuck under my arm or her wing. She could she me coming before I got the car parked and be there before I get out. I am going to miss her SO BAD,.!!! I took her to the local vet and they said that they don't treat birds,..(BS)and it was at that time she died in my arms. I was mad and sad so I brought her home and I am full of "what if's" and WHY?? She had a little drainage from her beak and she was opening and closing her mouth really slow and made a small sound and I could tell she was about to die so I scooped her up and took her to my car and had my son drive to the vets. I am dying inside,..I just need some opinions on what could have happened and if I could have saved her??
