eagles

Debate will be over (and you will have won) if he reads up on eagles or as someone suggested, just reads some posts in this section of BYC....

I personally witnessed a pair of Bald eagles systematically pick off almost a whole a flock of chickens from my neighbours yard.I got a hold of them and they put them in a smaller run to save the rest. They will not swoop into a narrow/small area.

The same eagle went after my 20lb Pekin ducks! Quite the sight, "wow look at that a bald eagle right out the window at eye level! Wonder what it is doing.... THE DUCKS!!!" Luckily I was at the door and managed to scream and flap and run at it. What a sight, HUGE, with talons drawn! It went back up and the dog barked and chased it. Luckily it had landed in a tree before making the final decent (wow big duck, can I take it?), giving me time, and the ducks time to run for cover! They went in a smaller area as well during the eagle times, nesting in the spring I assume. Seemed to slow down late summer.

Turns out wild ducks are part of their usual diet?! Especially when the ducks are molting and are slow.

They carried chickens by my kitchen window daily

Very un-nerving! Cover them!

I have Bald Eagles everywhere here. I've never known one to take a bird. They are far more interested in catching fish and eating carcasses then bothering with a measely chicken.

Great Horned Owls, though, will very quickly and easily dispatch a chicken.
