Earliest Layed Egg Contest - *No Prize* - Ends 8/22/20

Hey Guys! I’m starting the Earliest Laid Egg Contest! The title may be a bit confusing, so I’ll clear things up

The “Earliest Laid Egg” means when a chicken lays an egg before expected. For example: A White Leghorn was expected to start laying at 18 weeks old, and she laid an egg at 14 weeks.

Rules are Simple

1. To enter the contest, reply to this thread the earliest a chicken has laid for you, not a friend.

2. You have to state:
a. What breed the chicken is
b. When she was expected to lay
c. When she did lay

3. The contest ends Saturday, August 22nd, 2020.

4. There is no prize, this is just for fun

I've never had an early layer and I hope I never will because if a hen is undeveloped and starts laying, she might become egg bound. Sounds like a fun contest, though!

I can’t wait to see the comments!! My 18 chickens are 7 months and not laying so I can’t really enter, but I would love to see everybody else’s replies!!

I have three Golden Comets, and if they start at 16 weeks, which is the low end of what I understand to be the expected range, that will be tomorrow - no eggs yet - so I doubt i'm winning this. Or even placing top 10.

The Hoover Hatchery "Rainbows" are anyone's guess. Assuming they are like a Freedom Ranger or some of the other mixed breed duals being offered from various hatcheries, they may start two weeks from tomorrow.

Thus far, they seem more interested in kicking all the bedding out of their nesting boxes, then poking thru seeking bugs (which they never find) than nesting, so I'm not bothering to cross fingers.

It will happen when it happens, but best luck (and good health) to any ealry layers that do enter

Not thus far. Though at least they left most of the straw in the nesting boxes this time, instead of kicking it to the floor as usual.
