I was out this morning with a guy and son who came to pick up my meanest 2 girls. They were fairly easy to round up but in the herding I noticed on one of my more favorites that part of her face was coated in black gunk. Didn't see that yesterday. Guaranteeing it was an attack from Joe, now GONE thankfully.

So after everyone calmed back down I proceeded to grab her, she's afraid of her own shadow and didn't make it easy. Once I got her inside, her face got rinsed off........... Well, most of it anyway, I left the scabbing in place. But it looks like part of her earlobe has almost been torn off. I trimmed off her muffs and part of her beard which were coated in hardened ooze and slathered it with antibiotic salve. She's now in the empty brooder in the living room. She's terrified of the cats and dogs so I'm going to let her calm down a bit before pulling out the camera for a 'how bad is this' pic.

Anything else I should be doing?

Vitals:
Freak, aptly named I might add
EE, 10 months approx
Fine except the head wounds which were just noticed today
Other than the junk I rinsed off, no obvious bleeding
Does show signs of tenderness/pain when the area is touched

sounds like you're doing well.
make sure the antibiotic doesn't have painkiller.

I had an andalusian survive being nearly scalped. She'll probably be fine.

Best shots I could get for now:

I'm suspecting that there is an actual hole there in the center of the black crust, won't know until it softens up and comes off.

So I wanted to update this.
Took 4 days for the black scabbing to soften up enough to come off, even with twice daily antibiotic salve, thinking it was mostly dirt from the run instead of all blood. It came off when I was cleaning it on Wednesday evening, the 31st. It was almost a full 1/4" thick and as big as a penny. Under it you could see that the earlobe had been pealed away from her head and was just barely hanging on. All the tissue looked live and healthy though, good blood supply and no necrotic areas. So I just salved it again and by the next morning it had rolled almost back into place on it's own. By last night you could tell something had happened but there was no exposed tissue or scabbing. I put her back out last night after dark and this morning she back to being her freaky self. No one is pecking at it so she stays in the run.

I'm so glad she's doing well! It's hard when they're hurt like that.
I'm sure she'll thank you for nursing her with lots of eggs and weird behavior!

I honestly though she was going to loose that earlobe at first, it looked worse the day after I took that pic! Now she just looks funny with no beard and most of her muffs missing

She lays the biggest blue eggs 4 days a week!
