Does anyone know..are speckled sussex early or late layers? Mine are only 9-10 weeks old so they have a way to go.I know other breeds slack way off during "dogdays" and wonder if the sp. sussex are 4 mo. beginners etc.Anyone know??

Early or late depends on when they were hatched. Plan on 6 months to lay.
All chickens slack off to some degree during the "dog days" of summer.

You confused me with this:

"...and wonder if the sp. sussex are 4 mo. beginners etc. Anyone know??"

Anyone know what?

I guess I should have given more info..the breeder told me they should start laying at 4 mo. but I don't buy that..they will be 4mo. at the beginning of dog days..so I will figure at the beginning of fall..thanks for the help..sorry for the confusion..lol

Sussex are classic, dual purpose yard fowl. They are the British equivalent of our Plymouth Rocks.
As such, they vary litte from the type and you can expect laying to commence between 20-24 weeks.

If they DO start laying at 4 mo's for sure, I'll buy some of those fertile eggs!
