Would like anyone's " take" on an early molt in a mature peacock, his age is ~12.
He's not sick and acts/looks/feels ( weight wise per the latter ) healthy as can be.
No changes have been made to his environment lately or in YEARS , just the routine cleaning of the pens and normal day to day activities, etc.
No critter issues .
Him, nor any of the other peafowl in/around their pens, have been moved.
Nothing has changed in the entire peafowl pen area... it's been business as usual .
Have 11 other males , all those are performing normal as they should be this time of year. ( def. NOT in molt)
There's Nothing I can think of that would trigger him to start the molt in May !
Just curious if anyone else have ever had this happen to one of their males in the throws of breeding season ?!

thanks for taking the time to reply...they all had heat lamps when needed (red lamps) up until around about mid March..guess he could've stayed inside under them more so than the others, just not sure.
Been an off season for the laying too, just not sure what to make of it all .
Everybody's healthy, guess that's most important !

Mine have the same coop lighting year round (on at 6:15am, off at 9pm) and their normal outdoor light cycle when they aren't inside the coop. The blues all do normal peafowl things like good children. My purple pen, however, starts screaming and laying eggs in february, and the male always drops his train in June. I think sometimes birds are just.... Like That.

I have only had peafowl since last year. We hatched 3 last year and 2 so far this year. My male dropped all of his train feathers in the last week. Is there anything I need to do. He is in the same pen as last year. There are 2 hens and the 3 offspring from last year in the same pen
