We had an aweful electrical storm here Tuesday night... we have them pretty often and nothing bad for my girls has ever come of it, my DH did a great job making sure the coop was sturdy enough to with stand those storms... any way the last storm somehow opened our coop door................. later that morning when I went out to see if my girls had weathered the storm alright, I noticed the door was sitting half way open ( this is when my heart sank because they werent roaming around) all of them were dead! All except one which since then has been sleeping in the laundry room at night. I held in my tears for my kids for a full day and a half but today I broke down and cried... I know things happen in nature but until you actually see the violent kill-joy part of it you never really know what it's like... I'm feeling better now though. How ever new girls aren't in the budget unless I can sell a few things... I have a couple of things listed here but I guess I'm over on my listing.. I have a few more silver spoons, a ruby/diamond ring and a Boyds Bear I'm trying to sell so that can fix the damage that was done and buy some chicks. If anyone is interested in seeing the rest of my items pm me and I'll email pictures.. thanks so much

I am so sorry!!!!!

Do you have an incubator by chance??

no I dont have an incubator and I don't think I'll ever get one with how often the power goes out at our house, we have a generator, if we were ever to get one but it's not big enough to do any good, and it's pretty old

This must be predator week at our house... we often hear coyotes out here.... but I havn't seen them in the front yard ever !! they must have caught wind of what the raccoons did. I brought the dogs inside and called the neighbor!! My DH is working until midnight...

I hope you are okay. At least your birds lived a good life, and you cared about them enough to go through so many precautions. I don't know many people who would do so much for "just a chicken". They don't realise how much they can mean to us sometimes. I know i cried forEVER when my first hen died. Maybe you can order some more birds from a hatchery. I would have offered you some of my eggs too, but I'm in Australia, and silkies probably aren't the best birds for a place full of raccoons.
