early??

only have 2 keets and the chick. rather then buy 50 lbs gamebird starter can i grind up emu feed? it' 23% protein. been doing this for chick starter the last few years, and works fine for them. feeding them that now but read 25% for keets is being off by 2% going be a problem??
I feed mine a 28% protein turkey or gamebird starter. They can survive on 23% protein but it isn't just about the protein. Because they have such high metabolic rates and rapid growth, they need the higher levels of lysine, methionine and niacin that is included in a quality turkey or gamebird starter. I do not know what those levels are in your emu feed so cannot say whether those levels will be high enough or not.

Too low??
The lysine is good, the methionine looks a little low but much better than chick starter. Unfortunately they don't list the niacin concentration.

You could get a quality vitamin B complex and mix it at the rate of 1/2 tablet or capsule to one gallon of water. It will provide the niacin (vitamin B3). It needs to be mixed fresh daily.

You can also use Brewer's yeast like the duck people do to provide niacin for their waterfowl.

The Lysine at 1.50 PCT and the Methionine at .50 PCT is on par with what should be in turkey starter. 28% protien turkey starter should have 1.6 ME/kg of lysine and 0.55 ME/kg of methionine, respectively. Your Emu feed isn't that far off but I'm not a expert on guinea keets. @R2elk is far more experinced than I am with guineas.

Called Poulin Grain, they were super nice, nicain in the ratite feed has .07 grams per pound and their gamebird / guinea feed only had .o4 grams per pound. it also had another vitamin B so looks like i'll be ok feeding the ratite feed. Thanks for your help, as i wouldn't have known what i was looking for or what to ask what question to ask. Having one less type of feed, is one less metal trash cluttering my basement.
