My kids have wanted chickens for 2 years ever since we went to a friends house who had about 20 chickens. I decided to get them each 2 chicks for Easter, 3 kids times 2 chicks each gave us 6 chicks. Since they are so young they aren't laying yet and my kids were very anxious to get eggs. Being the spoiling kinda Mom that I am I went out and bought 3 layers. We now have 3 Golden Sex Links, a Rhode Island Red, a Belgian d'Uccle, a Seabright, a Silkie, a Maran, 2 Ameraucanas which came from a straight run and 1 of them ended up being a roaster. All great chickens! Although, we did name the Belgian d'Uccle "friendly" because she loves to hop on us. So far The Golden Sex Links are the only ones laying eggs, can't wait to get some blue-green and dark brown eggs. We are still learning things as we go but overall a great experience for my family.

What a Mom !!!
Hens and chicks will be a great learning experience for all of you!!!
Don't hesitate to ask ANY questions here, remember, if in doubt post it and some one on here will let you know. There is a lot of BYC'ers that really know their stuff.

Hello and welcome!

I love having a mixed flock! Easter eggers and rhode island reds are my best layers. My d'uccle is also a great layer and gives me 5 eggs a week. She rarely takes a break from laying, but she is the only one that lays in the nest.
