I'm new to raising chickens. We only wanted hens for laying eggs. However this one is looking suspiciously rooster!! Opinions?

How old is he/she? I'm kinda on the fence about this one. If it is 4-5 mos. old I would say pullet. If younger I would lean toward cockerel, I know males tend to have reddish color near the wings - this one does but, I am not seeing pointed hackle or saddle feathers. I'm not able to enlarge the photo so can't a better look.

You can also get opinions at "what breed or gender is this."

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on sourland; it looks like a cockerel to me. :o( If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

13 wks old. And I was like you on the saddle and hackle feathers not typical. Does not act like a rooster at all. Very timid. Let's others push around.
