Easter Egger/Aracauna/Ameracauna egg colors question:

It is easy to tell what color gene the hen carries (ha ha). But how can you tell what gene the rooster carries? I had 3 hens: two laid the blue egg and the third lay the pink egg. The pink egglayer was killed (darn racoon). I raised some babies and they are laying blue and green (and possibly pink) eggs. How can I tell which of my "baby" roos are carrying the green gene so I can put them with my green egg hens? Or does it matter? My original breeders were white and the babies are all different colors.

You cannot tell what color egg gene the rooster carries unless you hatch him. Most breeders will hatch their rooster from a blue egg.

Hatch a batch of only the blue eggs and keep one of the roosters from it.

If a person has ee's and wants to "breed up" to the blue egg gene you keep picking the eggs that are blue/minty green and hatch from them and breed to a rooster from a blue egg.

I was wondering about breeding my green egg hens so I could sell green eggs and people buying would hatch out green egg layers. Or does it matter what gene the roo carries? Will a blue gene roo with green egg hens still have green egg babies? Or maybe I should ask which gene is dominate - green or blue?
