Hello,
We have a small flock of 4 bantam chickens, all different types. Our Easter egger has been laying regularly but we recently noticed some changes in her eggs. ( see attached pictures).
She gets picked on regularly by one of the other chicks and has lost a few feathers in her neck. Not sure if this is the beginning of molting or they are being pecked off.
Today we noticed her shoot is very red, will try to get a better picture later today.

Should we be concerned about how her eggs look, is this a sign of something going on with her? We found a paper thin soft shell egg in the coop a few weeks back and believe it was hers.
Her eggs are usually small and round. These last few have been bumpy and today oval.

Thank you for any guidance you might be able to share.
Julien

How old is she?
When you mention her shoot is very red - do you mean her vent?
What do you feed?

She is about a year and a half. We feed all organic layer feed plus they get to roam around the yard all day so they eat bugs as well. We saw her poop today and what that came out of what very red.
Thank you!

Can you get some photos of the poop?
Was it bloody or could it be that she ate something like berries that would have colored it?

The poop itself was on the liquid side. Will see what it looks like today.
Any comments regarding the eggs and their change in shape and granular shell?
Thank you
The shell has calcium deposits. Could be stress (she's low in pecking order), lice/mites, worms, nutritional deficiency/too much/too little calcium, shell gland defect.
Do you provide oyster shell free choice?
I would look her over for lice/mites and consider getting a fecal float to check for worms.
As for the shape - hard to know - if she's extremely stressed she may be in a hurry if she's harassed at the nesting boxes. Could be she's getting a little fatty in the abdomen and the oviduct is being pressed in which would narrow the egg a bit.

It would be good to take a really good look at that poop if it was bloody. May want to check her vent to make sure she doesn't have any wounds/prolapse too.
