I'm thinking about breeding a Pure bred Buff Amerucana rooster with my Plymouth barred rock hens and selling them as Easter egger sex links.

I have never seen any of the big commercial hatcheries breed and sell a sex link Easter egger.

Do you think this cross would sell easily?

Could I sell it for more $ than a regular Easter egger cross?

Breeding Sexlinks to sell kind of both sides of the fence. On one hand you can get more money for the pullets because you can sex them at hatch. On the other hand the cockerels will be worth much less because you know at hatch that they are cockerels. So in theory you could make more money. But when you average them out you'll end up in about the same place as straight run chicks.

Example....
Straight Run chicks $5 each x 10 chicks =$50
Sexlinked chicks 5 pullets at $8 each and 5 cockerels at $2 each =$50

Not trying to discourage you be any means. Easter Eggers are very popular right now.
It sounds like a fun project. But I wouldn't get your hopes up for $$$. Also the cockerels may be hard to get rid of. So you'll need a plan for that.

I have been using a one my Plymouth barred rock hens to hatch out baby chicks.
I have been butchering the cockerels from her hatches.
I know its hard to get rid of cockerels that's why I just butcher them and I don't even attempt to sell them or give them away.
I don't have a incubator right now.
I know if I decide to sell this cross,
buff amerucana roo x Plymouth rock hen=Black Easter egger sex link I will need a incubator because my broody wont be able to hatch out enough..LOL

Sounds like a fun project, hope you go ahead with it and post pictures. I feed out a few of my cockerels but I also give a lot of them away. I'd rather let somebody else feed them out.
