So maybe I'm just missing the right thread, but I am wondering what breed(s) make up an Easter Egger? I've just picked up five baby Easter Eggers and wow, they run the gambit of colors. Two really light\\silver colored, one fluffy brown, two chipmunk colored. Thoughts on what this little guys are going to look like or where they came from?

Essentially, Easter Eggers started out with Ameraucana and (theoretically but unlikely) Araucana stock. From there they have been crossed with various brown egg laying breeds. I've seen them had production red, lakenvelder, wyandotte, and buff orpington in them. Most by now you really can't tell the originp parentage of though.

only the cockerls are made of puppy dog tails, the pullets are made of sugar and spice and everything nice

So if they ever ask, i can tell them that they are the result of a drunk mad scientist.

. Thanks for the info, it's good to hear there is some BO in there somewhere. So in the breeding, do they ever reintroduce the original one/two breeds? I'm just suprised at how good these birds are for being a bit of everything.

Well, some people are currently making EE's, usually by putting a Ameraucana rooster over hens of various sorts, sometimes EEs. Sometimes its done just for the sake of getting good layers who lay pretty eggs, other people are trying to get particular colors of eggs, like dark olive. I'll be doing the first myself-I've got a really sweet Ameraucana cockrel that is in with a mixed flock, and hopefully he'll be making some pretty EE chicks in a couple of months.
